The modern BlueScope Steel Limited has evolved from the coming together of three pioneer companies in the Australian steel industry ( The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited, John Lysaght [Australia] Pty Ltd and Australian Iron & Steel Limited ) together with the more recent acquisitions of New Zealand Steel and Butler Manufacturing. BlueScope Steel was listed on the Stock Exchange in 2002.
Zincalume is a sheet of steel with a coat of Zinc & Aluminium to protect the steel from rusting. Colorbond is Zincalume, the difference is the Zincalume sheet has been painted with one of the 20 available colours for aesthetic purposes making it Colorbond.
To see a more graphic and detailed range of the Colorbond colours, go to the Colorbond website and proceed to the Colorbond Colour Centre or to find out more about Zincalume, go to the Zincalume website.
The three most common sheet roof profiles are:
*BMT – Base Metal Thickness means the steel sheet before the coating of zinc & aluminium goes on.
Corrugated is the most widely recognized and used profile roof sheet and covers 95% of all metal roof houses. If your roof has more than a 5 degrees pitch, then you can use corrugated. For less than 5 degrees, then you need to use a Trimdek® or Klip-Lok® profile. The main difference between these two is the Trimdek is fastened to your roof using roofing screws which go through the roof sheet into the roofing frame. Klip-Lok has fixing clips underneath the sheet which are attached to the roofing frame. The sheet then locks into the fixing clip. To see a full range of roof sheet profiles, go to steelselect.com.
Cappings
Just about any flashing, valley, ridge capping etc…. can be tailor made using Zincalume & Colorbond.

There are a few big manufacturers as well as a lot of small manufacturers & wholesalers of roofing materials all essentially selling the same product. Ever since we’ve been in the roofing business ( way back in the early 90’s of the last century ) we’ve always delt with the one supplier and that is Wholesale Roofing Supplies, in St Peters. A family owned business and as the name implies they are a wholesaler so they aren’t tied into one manufacturer, they are like a broker so they will shop around for the best price. They’ve always been very competitive & just as important the service has always been very good. For more information, click on the link to their website, they are located at:
